I started my initial career after my graduation from Delhi University in a few small jobs here and there before finally landing a job with Star TV in the year 1995 and then going on to work with other well known TV Broadcasting companies of India.
“It all began at my casual Sunday visits to one or two organic markets in my neighbourhood in Gurgaon. A brief tête-à-tête with a few farmers, trying to sell their organic produce, got me inquisitive and engaging, leading me to visit their farms soon after. Their issues and day to day work made me wonder as to how I could help them get the best solution to grow more effectively, reduce the wastage, maximise the output by consolidating land parcels and also introduce barter system amongst farmers for produce, manure etc.
Many people dissuaded me not to put my hands in something as complex as farming which was nowhere close to my career, but being a quick learner and self motivator, I took the plunge and began my journey 5 years ago leaving a highly paid job. From Business class tickets to bus rides, meandering in small villages, I was introduced to the green world of these farmers who were my teachers and companions in my initial years. This beautiful learning graph enlightened me and Everything Organik was born in 2014,” quotes Anoop Varma.
BRIDGE BETWEEN FARMERS AND CUSTOMERS
In today’s busy world where time is a constraint, team Everything Organik took the initiative of approaching certain condominiums to set up a mini organic market over the weekends in order to bring clean pesticide free produce to people’s homes and became the medium between farmers who were growing organic produce and customers who wanted to eat organic.
Everything Organik got the farmers produce to our markets and by buying from us, the consumers helped us pay the organic farmers a reasonable price and support their hard work. Everything Organik has in the last 50-52 months successfully hosted organic markets in various condominiums in the areas of DLF Phase 5, Golf Course extension road, DLF 4. Sector 31 etc in our quest to promote the organic movement with consumers. The market is set up like a mini carnival with Organic breakfast, fresh health drink, vegetables, staples, breads, cakes, muffins , poultry items and much more.
I focussed on standalone organic markets before starting the online platform www.everythingorganik.in which delivers 3 days a week in Delhi, Gurgaon and once a week in Noida.
Everything Organik entered the market at a time when people did not know about the organic produce much. Our initial 2 years went into making the consumer understand what it was and its benefits. Another challenge that we had was the supply chain and the delivery mechanism as the customers who had started buying from us were keen to buy everything from us. Hence, getting multiple farmers, checking their processes, authenticating their certifications was an uphill task but we did overcome that and got Everything Organik going.
Operations and Challenges
The company Everything Organik started with an intention of supporting small and marginal farmers who were growing organic produce. Our effort was to extend as much support to help them with soil testing, certification and selling. With our farmers database increasing, we have focussed on “Affordable Organic” as our tag line and whatever price benefit we get from the farmers/farmer consortium, we pass it on to our customers.
So today, apart from a Sunday organic market, we also participate in various fairs to educate people about our organic produce, our processes and and how we have worked on quality and freshness.
